NOW TAKING CHRISTMAS ORDERS!

Its that time when we have to start preparing for Christmas.  As you will appreciate, lots of planning needs doing to ensure we have the meat available for that one day! We do very much appreciate early orders as this helps us gauge early how much meat to have in the butchery. Also curing hams and bacon is a longer process so advance notice is greatly appreciated.

Here is our Christmas Order form.  Please fill out and return to the butchery or email to david@rosegatefarm.co.uk.  We will be selling Turkeys (reared locally), Goose, Chicken, our own beef, pork and lamb, sausages, bacon, gammon, stuffing etc.  Let us know if you want something that doesn’t appear on the order form and we will endeavour to meet your requirements.

Farm & Butchery News 2018

First of all a huge thank you for all your continued support throughout 2017 and a welcome to those of you who have recently found us!  Thanks to you we have enjoyed our best year to date in the butchery and been privileged to be invited to a Buckingham Palace garden party and win ‘Food Producer of the year’ award from Cambridge News.

The farm continues to grow in stock numbers and as demand for the meat increases we are thankful to pick up some extra grazing in the surrounding villages.  With the increasing flocks and herds there is always plenty to do and, although exhausting at times, we remain as passionate as ever about the livestock we care for and the meat we produce for you, our local customers!

It is rewarding to think the meat we produce here at Rosegate in Swavesey can provide food for so many people in the surrounding area.  Also we would remind you that we always welcome feedback of any variety regarding the meat as we strive to find the best mix of genetics and feed to produce the highest quality meat we can.

With the additional livestock we are now in a position to be able to provide beef, pork, lamb and chicken in the butchery most weekends of the year although it will always be in limited quantities.  We would always advise that if you are planning a special meal that you contact us to preorder your meat.

Now October is here and we have to start preparing for Christmas.  As you will appreciate, lots of planning needs doing to ensure we have the meat available for that one day! Feedback from last year’s turkey was absolutely fantastic with several customers taking the time to email us to tell us how much they had enjoyed it!

Food Producer of the Year 2017

(Awarded by the Cambridge Food and Drink Awards)

Thank you for voting for us! We collected our award on 3rd August at an afternoon tea award ceremony held at Quy Mill Hotel. We are really grateful to all our loyal customers for supporting us and helping to get to where we are now.  We’ve come a long way from just 6 pigs 6 years ago!!

Chickens

We are now supplying Sutton Hoo free range chickens and St George high welfare chickens (these are barn reared but in smaller numbers, with natural sunlight and are guaranteed antibiotic free).

These can be sold as whole, or breast, thighs drumsticks or wings

Opening Hours

Thursday 5.30pm to 7.30pm

Friday 8.30am to 5.30pm

Saturday 8.30am to 1.30pm

In other News

We are pleased to announce that following an environmental health inspection we have retained our 5 star food hygiene rating.

Freezer Clearance Sale – starting on 10th November, we intend to hold a monthly half price sale of our older freezer stock in order to maintain good stock rotation.  So come and grab a bargain once a month.  We will let you know on our weekly email which weekend each month this will take place.  There will be a notice in the butchery detailing items available in the sale.

Welcome to our butchery in Swavesey, Cambridgshire.  Looking for a particular cut of meat? Wanting a different weight of meat to standard pack size? Not sure how much meat you will need to feed 4 adults, 2 children and some leftover?  We are always happy to talk to customers about how they want their meat butchered and can advise on quantities required.  Going to a butchers can be a daunting prospect for some people but we pride ourselves on being approachable and willing to help.  So come to the butchery and watch your joint being prepared and ask all the questions you like!

New Sausage flavours

Those of you who have been in the butchery recently may have sampled our two new flavours – the Mediterannean (a tomato, Onion and garlic infused pork sausage) and the Caramelised Onion Sausage (the name says it all really!).  Let us know what you think of these flavours. We are always glad of any feedback.

Sausage Rolls

We are planning to introduce a new product in the very near future! Ready to Cook Sausage Rolls made with our Swavesey sausagemeat filling.  Look out for these at some point late November.  Pictures to be added soon!

Swavesey Primary School Fireworks BBQ

Once again we provided the BBQ for this fantastic event.  We sold over 400 hot dogs and burgers within 1 hour 15 mins.  The men were kept very busy!  But last years lesson was learnt and with the correct gas and good deal of organisation we pulled it off without too big queues forming!  We would thank the school for giving us the privilege of being a part of this brilliant village event!

Rosegate Mini Market

On the 7th November we hosted a mini food market here at Rosegate Farm.  The weather was very blustery and damp which wreaked havoc with the gazebos.  In true british spirit the stallholders resorted to car boots to sell their tasty foods.  Thank you to all those customers who turned out to support us and the other market stallholders (ORB Bakery, FenEnd Country Kitchen, Ashworth Oils & Kirsten’s Eat the Rainbow)

Over Village Market

The first Over Village market was a resounding success so Rosegate Farm will be returning to Market #2 on 12th December 10am until 1pm.  Take a look at the markets facebook page for more information on the event.

New Arrivals

We have some new friends just arrived on the farm – 5 ducks!  So if you fancy duck eggs for a change let us know.  Obviously supply will be limited with just the five at the moment.

Over Village Market

Rosegate Farm will have a stall at the first Over Village Market set to take place on 3rd October 2015 on the green in Over. We are working alongside ORB and Fen End Country Kitchen to organise this event so make a note of the date and spread the word! The market will be hosting several very local food producers and also a few local crafters so please come along and support your local businesses. Lets make this event a success so we can make it regular rather than one off.

New Pig Winter Housing

In order to cater to the greater number of pigs we seem to have now we are now taking a little time to improve their winter living quarters.  So we are now builders as well as farmer/butchers! As you will see from these images we are making some progress.

You will notice the absence of Lamb on the meat timetable.  We have weaned the lambs from their mothers which slows down their growth as their bodies adjust.  This means that at the moment we have no finished lambs and it makes it difficult to predict when the next ones will be ready but we hope that there will be some towards the end of September.

The Next Mini Food Fair – 5th Sep

The eagerly awaited date has been set! ORB Bakery and Fen End Country Kitchen are returning to Rosegate Farm on 5th September in the morning with more of their delicious breads, cakes, chutneys and jam. Hopefully this time the sun will shine!

Over Village Market

Rosegate Farm is hoping to have a stall at the first Over Village Market set to take place on 3rd October 2015 on the green in Over. We are working alongside ORB and Fen End Country Kitchen to organise this event so make a note of the date and spread the word! The market will be hosting several very local food producers and also a few local crafters so please come along and support your local businesses. Lets make this event a success so we can make it regular rather than one off.

Three Peaks Challenge

David successfully completed his 3 peaks challenge.  The team have so far raised £5000 for Arthur Rank Hospice.  Thank you all so much for your support and if you want to donate please visit the justgiving site.  Here are a few pictures.
